Okinawa Photo Locations

Here are a few images from family photo sessions I shot in the past. These were taken mostly in central Okinawa, between Chatan and Yomitan. You don’t have to go far to find stunning settings in Okinawa. You can have photos like this for as little as ¥19,000. Book your session today.

All of the images on this page were taken by me between 2017 and the present day. 

Remember, Okinawa is more than just sunsets, and since we are shooting with flash, we are not restricted to daylight hours. Some of my best work is done at night.

Authentic Okinawa

These were taken at Murasaki Mura in Yomitan. An entrance fee is needed, but it’s well worth the investment. This location is great for shots during the night too, especially during the lantern festival held each winter. 

American Village and Sunset Beach

American Village is the perfect place for playful images in an urban exotic setting. Sunset Beach isn’t far away, and the night shots available along the seawall are breathtaking. This is a perfect location to do a split shoot (sunset and night). It’s possible to get an excellent variety of images from this location.

Okinawan Beaches

Toguchi Beach is one of the best spots for family photography in Okinawa. It’s not just a beach. There are plenty of nice green areas with gazebos and other structures with distinctive Okinawan architecture. 

Famous Okinawan Landmarks

Cape Zanpa offers an iconic lighthouse and one of the most beautiful cliffs in Okinawa. It’s open all day and night year-round and has spectacular views of the ocean. Nearby is Zakimi Castle and it’s not impossible to split a shoot between locations.

Ocean Sunsets on a Stone Pier

Very close to Murasaki Mura is Gala, one of the most impressive backdrops for photos you could ever ask for anywhere in the world. It’s impressive even by Okinawa standards, and that says a lot. 

Southwest Botanical Gardens

Another famous illumination is the Southwest Botanical Gardens. The illumination is only available seasonally, but the location makes an awesome shoot during the day year-round.

Rocky Shores and Gazebos

Okinawa offers countless places for photos that capture the island’s tropical ambiance and Asian culture. These photos were taken at Toguchi Beach, but this is only one of many possible backdrops.

Ocean Vistas and Urban Settings

Some of the best photo locations are lookouts over the ocean, or even an urban background, or both. The top photo was taken at a park in Chatan. The second was shot in Nago Castle Park at a gazebo not far from the top of the mountain. You can’t go wrong with views like this. The third was at a park just north of Araha Beach.

In Studio

If all you need are headshots, we can shoot in my studio (a converted apartment). It may also be possible to shoot in your home with portable equipment, but I would prefer my own facility. If a professional studio or other rented space is needed, clients will have to cover such costs.
